Gravedigger

Every thousand years, the job of Purgatory’s Gravedigger is rotated. His job is to give people who stand at the crossroads of their lives their “one chance” to choose their destiny or the path to Death’s outstretched hand. And if you choose the latter, you’ll get measured for your grave.

To become a Gravedigger, one must be struck by lightning on his or her birthday during a red, full moon and when someone is cursing your name to the sky. In addition, the candidate must be of a true heart and a caring soul.

Timothy Pearson, 22 years old, was struck by that enchanted lightning bolt after seeing his crossroad played out in a sorcerer’s crystal ball. From that moment on he would slave at the job of the Gravedigger to all who chose Death’s path. And he must dig the grave of all who pass on until someone takes his place. His deep secret is that he must rob the graves for fresh organs to sew into his body, to keep it from completely decomposing. Thus under his pristine suit is a mutilated torso.

Gravedigger is the story of Timothy Pearson’s stay in Purgatory as the Gravedigger. Joined by Amelia-Ann, a 19 year old, book smart, aristocrat and the first female Death, Timothy and Amelia-Ann find love in the oddest of places and with the darkest of jobs. Joined by such characters as the Devil’s caring wife, Shelly, God’s gold digging girlfriend, Stacey, the sassy gypsy Molly, the quirky tombstone carver Drexel, the retired Death and the odd couple of the Wonderful White Witch Of Paris and her feline husband, Le Chat, purgatory bustles with activity while we experience back on earth ‘The End Of Hamilton Massachusetts’

Gravedigger’s eternal job that was bestowed to him by both Heaven and Hell is to dig each and every grave of those who have died. However, some say it is his other job that really defines him. Gravedigger meets you at the crossroads of your life. He will show you the path to your destiny or he will also show you your short path to your grave. However, it is not up to him what you choose, as Gravedigger says, “everyone gets one chance, even you”.

Gravedigger keeps two secrets. Late in the night he must rob his own graves for new organs to keep his body from completely decomposing. Under his nice suit the Gravedigger’s body is covered in grotesque scars. His other secret is more emotional. There are days Gravedigger finds himself hoping that people do not choose their destiny, but choose death, so he can have fresh organs and end his physical pain.

As of resent he feels the subtle tug of love from the new young girl who has taken over the job of Death – Amelia-Ann.

Amelia

A young girl, straight out of college, she was a triple major in English, History, and Language. She has great posture and a heart-stopping smile, but she is very naive in the ways of the world; Amelia-Ann is only book smart. She is very anti-establishment and opposes the rules of society that she doesn’t find to be morally correct.

Amelia-Ann is a young girl straight out of college. She was a triple major of English, History, and Language. She has great posture and a heart-stopping smile, but is very naive in the ways of the world. Amelia-Ann is only book smart. She is very anti-establishment and against the rules of society that she doesn’t find to be morally correct.

One day before work Amelia-Ann had a visit from Death. Upon seeing Death Amelia-Ann fled and Death made chase. When Death was just about to close in on Amelia-Ann, he fell into a pit of newly born, highly poisonous snakes. Death was eaten. It is written, “The one responsible for the slaying of Death MUST in turn overtake his task.” Amelia-Ann was to be the new Death.

With the help of the old Death and the Gravedigger she is learning the job slowly. However, being a very opinionated girl, she’s not following all the rules to the job. She will ultimately grow to take the job very seriously and will become not only the youngest and first female Death, but also the most original and respected Death of all.

Over time Amelia-Ann will take on the form of Death. Self conscious of these physical changes like growing feathery wings, she will take on her greatest bane of figuring out how to reverse the process of her face and body slowly decomposing. And most significantly, she slowly and I do mean slowly, comes to realizes she is falling in love with the Gravedigger.

The Gravedigger’s dog, Murf, is to forever live in Purgatory at the age of six. He is an Irish setter with long, curly red hair. His tongue is always out and flopping around. Murf is wide-eyed and full of life. He is always looking at Twitter and Gravedigger for direction and approval. His most important job is to fetch and later burry the Gravedigger’s box of surgical tools. Murf also helps Gravedigger by measuring people for their coffin size.

Murf’s Mum and Papa were two dogs that sailed on a ship from England to America. He is frightened of Werewolves and their midnight howls. Murf’s number one joy in life is playing ‘fetch the bones’ with the Gravedigger.

Twitter is a white dove with a yellow beak and caring eyes. Her best friend is Murf. She landed on the Gravediggers shoulder when he was hit by lightning and is now with him in Purgatory. She helps Gravedigger measure people for their coffins along with Murf. She sings a wondrous melody when she is happy or bored. Twitter also helps teach Amelia-Ann how to fly once her feathered wings come in.

Born in Transylvania and the youngest heir to the infamous Count Dracula, Molly is one tough chick that’s not to be crossed. Molly can see into the future in her crystal ball, which Gravedigger uses to show people the crossroads in their lives. Molly can also bring people from Purgatory to Earth and back again.

Molly loves nothing more than gossip. She can also drink a ton. Molly likes fist fights, lousy booze and trouble making. She loves to hang with Shelly’s little Devils and play cards and darts.

One deep secret of hers is that she once made out with God. She fears most being taken over by another soul, which she knows in her business, is highly possible. Molly lights her cigarettes and candles by kissing the tip with her hot lips.

Molly always thinks you’re lucky she’s even around. She’s often found looking about something cooler to do. If you cross her…God help you.

Death

Death is a weary, overworked man. He puts a lot of thought into what he says and is a thoughtful listener to others. He is a man that has worked hard his entire life. Death is honest, fair and reasonable. Death is a man’s man who respects others mostly on their work ethic.

His best friends, or should I say drinking companions, are Drexel and The Devil. He also thinks very highly of the Gravedigger; a friendship that the Gravedigger holds very dearly. Death is liked by everyone in the afterlife with the exception of God’s girlfriend, Stacey. Their bad relationship sparks from her thinking that Death believes he could do a better job then God himself – which may be secretly true.

Death is teaching Amelia-Ann, his replacement, the business. He treats her like a daughter and gets uncomfortable when he must see her as a young woman. Despite his appearance, he truly is a kind, loving, and loyal man.

Every witch has a black cat, but La Sorciere is very close with hers. Le Chat is her husband and is also the dominant one in the relationship. She is consistently working on spells to allow Le Chat to be able to take the form of a man.

She takes care of everyone she meets and takes on the role of the mother in every situation. Sewing, cooking, giving haircuts, and heart to heart conversations are just a few of her domestic qualities she has perfected. She is extremely powerful, but never let’s on that she is.

She loves talking about other people’s love lives and enjoys keeping up with the day to day of others. She loves nothing more then love it self.

Drexel has a love hate relationship with his donkey, Donk-U-Lous. He wears a bowtie under his beard and is always making sure it looks good around ladies, yet it is never seen.

She is most scared of being normal and having to take care of herself. She mostly thinks about getting more power and having everyone look up to her. She’s a cranky, self-loathing, and a gossiping drunk. She is rude to all men that cannot help her get what she wants and that includes Gravedigger, Death, Drexel and Le Chat.
